Urinary MycoTOX Test

$498.00

MycoTOX screens for 11 mycotoxins produced by 40+ mold species, using a single urine sample and advanced mass spectrometry (MS/MS) for accurate low-level detection. This test is ideal as a follow-up to CIRS bloodwork, not as a standalone mold clearance test. Optimal for tracking detox progress or confirming ongoing mold toxin exposure.

All tests from Empower Functional Health include a detailed analysis report that includes EFH explanations, dietary and supplement recommendations, and customized next steps based on your test results.

Preparation:

Avoid glutathione, bentonite clay or similar binders, and activated charcoal for at least 72 hours before collecting your sample. If you’re taking Mycophenolate mofetil (CellCept/Myfortic), consult your physician about pausing the medication for 72 hours. Do not stop any prescribed medications or supplements without your healthcare provider’s guidance.

Plan to collect your first morning urine sample before eating or drinking.

Avoid contamination of samples with blood or while menstruating as this may interfere with test results.

Description

The MycoTOX Profile (Urinary Mycotoxin Test) is a non-invasive urine test that screens for 11 of the most clinically relevant mycotoxins from over 40 mold species using advanced mass spectrometry. These fungal toxins are often present in water-damaged buildings, food, and indoor environments, and may accumulate in the body over time.

This test evaluates toxic mold exposure and supports ongoing detoxification efforts. While it can help identify toxin load, it should be used alongside CIRS blood panels to assess full systemic impact and guide clinical decisions.

Why it matters

Mycotoxins can suppress immunity, cause mitochondrial dysfunction, impair hormone balance, and affect the nervous system. They are known contributors to chronic fatigue, inflammation, sinus issues, brain fog, skin rashes, reproductive symptoms, and autoimmune flares.

Because mycotoxins accumulate in adipose tissue and may not circulate continuously in blood, urine testing provides an effective snapshot of ongoing or recent exposure. MycoTOX can also help verify detox progress and guide whether binders or other interventions are working.

For best results, combine with CIRS bloodwork and EFH’s Personalized Health Plan to get a full picture of inflammation, system burden, and detox capacity.

What this includes

  • Detection of 11 mold-derived toxins (e.g., Ochratoxin A, Aflatoxin M1, Zearalenone, Gliotoxin)
  • Identification of mold genera including Aspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium, Stachybotrys, and Chaetomium
  • EFH written analysis including summary of findings, personalized detox and drainage protocol, supplement and dietary recommendations, and guidance on next steps, including retesting or CIRS support options

How it works

  • Oftentimes, a provocation protocol, such as removing high-mycotoxin-risk foods and taking NAC or glutathione, is recommended to support more accurate results.
  • Once you purchase the test, you’ll receive an email with instructions and a test kit will be mailed to your home.
  • Ship the sample. Follow the included shipping instructions carefully.
  • You’ll receive a personalized analysis and actionable next steps via email.
  • For in-depth case management or interpretation, a separate 1-on-1 session is recommended.
